Abstract

The paper presents the results of a project that meets the need to develop the Italian language in students of foreign background, with specific focus on the study of school subjects. The study concentrated on how to tackle the passage from the L2 Italian language workshop to the studying in class of the subject languages. Starting from a training course for teachers that resulted in the production of personalised teaching tools, the project involved every type of secondary school, parent-teacher-student meetings, individual students and entire heterogeneous and multilingual classes. The experiment developed highly positive situations, according to the participants, and especially developed in the teachers involved a new mindset that allows to assess and adopt educational texts and materials in a more critical and effective manner. The contamination among teachers, a renewed enthusiasm for teaching and the positive response of the students have confirmed the need to put in place new training practices.
