Civic education and citizenship education are issues currently at the centre of attention in many European countries, perceived as a resource for defending fundamental values such as peace, equality and human rights and as one of the ways of addressing the tension typical of multicultural democracies. Unfortunately, in recent years, the question has been affected by the fact that in the field of adult education, civic and citizenship issues have often been equated with the tests that many European countries require to measure the integration of foreign citizens in the country of arrival.
The article invites the reader to review the role of civic and citizenship education in L2 courses and proposes a series of concrete examples designed to develop knowledge and skills allowing migrants to become full citizens.
