Abstract

Care is the factory of being there: what allows the full flowering of our ontological qualities, repairing the wounds of the soul and body. Yet, despite its essentiality being evident in everyday life, the phenomenon of care has often been overlooked by theoretical and empirical research. The awareness of the ontological necessity of care has ancient roots, but for a long time it was conceived as the exclusive domain of female wisdom, without being adequately theorized and investigated. In recent decades, however, there has been a growing academic interest around the topic of care, with an international scientific production capable of contributing to drawing new horizons for policies increasingly capable of responding to the ethical challenges of contemporary times. It is starting from this international debate that the “Melete. Center of Ethics for Care”, directed by Professor Luigina Mortari, organized the international conference “Philosophy and Politics of Care”, which took place on 16-17 May 2024 at the University of Verona.
