Abstract

This paper presents the results of research conducted within INDIRE’s Maker@Scuola project aimed at improving laboratory teaching of STEM subject. The project integrates digital technology, consisting of a data collection system called dSerra, developed at INDIRE, with didactics inspired by the Bifocal Modeling methodology, which promotes scientific understanding through data collection and modeling. The paper describes its application to the case of hydroponic greenhouse and the design process of the dSerra system, providing comprehensive technical information about its components. This mobile laboratory enables realtime monitoring of plant growth in a hydroponic system. The collaboration between INDIRE and schools shows the potential of this system integrated with the described teaching methodology to improve science education in Italy, engaging students in data collection, promoting interdisciplinary skills and passion for science.
