Learning in the era of the pandemic

Abstract

The results of the 2021 INVALSI tests reveal several problems in terms of student learning levels. The pandemic has exacerbated the situation, but theorigins of the difficulties found date back a long time.
INVALSI data provide a different way of measuring education, also based on the quality of learning achieved. The picture emerging is anything but encouraging, with large numbers of students leaving school with totally inadequate skills (implicit school dropouts), nor do things seem to be going well as regards students with excellent results (high performers), with too few in many geographical areas and following various study paths.
