The paper presents a literature review focussed on key educational aspects and approaches to include local and global citizenship education in school curricula. The paper highlights the five following dimensions: justice, sustainability, participation, cultural diversity, and decoloniality. It presents how these dimensions are taken into account in a recent document called Global Citizenship
Education Italian Strategy. The strategy provides an opportunity to revise and update the framework for the development of curricula in the different areas of formal education.
