Abstract

An important element that characterizes most Italian schools is the linguistic diversity of those who attend them. Knowing and measuring this diversity is an indispensable requirement for understanding the linguistic experience of pupils and for evaluating its effects on the development of their scholastic and cognitive skills. With this aim, the research on the linguistic uses of children with immigrant families in the first and second grades of primary school in the province of Trento was born, promoted by Istituto Provinciale per la Ricerca e la Sperimentazione Educativa (IPRASE) with the scientific support of the University of Trento and of Bilinguismo conta.
