“GreenComp”: a fundamental tool for teaching and learning sustainability

Abstract

On January 14, 2022, the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission published the GreenComp framework, which provides a systemic and, above all, agreed-upon framework of competencies needed to address sustainability challenges. The underlying assumption is that, to bring about real change, it is not sufficient to understand aspects of the problem, but it is essential to promote and encourage a cultural shift and transformation in the way of "thinking, planning, and acting with sustainability in mind, to live in harmony with the planet."
